It also had the front of a Silverado grafted on, but the owner was looking at me from inside the store, so no pics of that.

I’m confused. Is something not normal about this vehicle?

It’s Duramax powered and they never came that way.

It was nice, and even emissions deleted, which as someone who uses an undeleted Duramax for work, is exactly how I'd want it.

Duramax Suburbans are the Holy Grail vehicle of people that have big families and big hobbies. GM really missed a huge market chunk when they never made a diesel SUV. There are quite a few companies that will do the swap for you, but it is very, very expensive.

Yep, and dude looked loaded, but seemed like the type that actually uses it.

I finally found the owner of the duramax Yukon thats parked at my office. Wasn’t who I was expecting AT. ALL. A very pleasant baby faced man who was shockingly up to snuff for his car knowledge. We chatted about his conversion (~$10,000 drivetrain swap including the full ton 11.5 inch axle) and how he gets it past emissions (I guess its legal?) and his tunes and mileage and so on. He says with his economy ECU (he has two he swaps) he gets 22 highway mpg, and his towing ECU does 400 hp and 680 lbs-ft (I guess its an estimate) while getting 16 towing a 5000 lbs boat. I wish I could get 16 ever.

Kinja'd!!!

It sounds like a very cool swap.

Surely he means tunes instead of separate ECUs. A DSP5 switch(literally a 5 position switch with tuning storage) combined with EFI Live could give you that, plus 3 more tunes.

he said different ECU’s. I suspect his economy tune is not DOT approved.

Whoever told him to do that severely ripped him off. Plus, I think a Banks Six Gun would return nearly that.

I Think he snagged a spare ECU for free, from the sounds of it.

That still sounds ridiculously complex for a job that a CARB legal Banks Six Gun tuner could accomplish, but whatever floats his boat.

Still my dream to have mine made into a duraburb. Always cool to see these get some love! Cool post.
